EV chargers and generators close on a different clock
A Doral warehouse asks for six EV chargers. A gated-community homeowner wants a whole-house generator before the season. Neither will decide this week. Both are worth more than a month of service calls, and both are invisible in a report that counts calls.
A note on what this is. We have no figures on how long an EV charger sale takes in Doral. This is about why quoted work and service work cannot share one number without one of them disappearing.
Two clocks
A service call closes in a day. Tripped breaker, outlet, fan. You answer, you go, you invoice. A generator or a charger install closes in three to eight weeks. Site visit, quote, permit questions, a manager who has to get approval from someone else, a second quote from a competitor, a signature.
What one report does to them
If your report says "42 jobs this month, average $380," the six-charger job is in there as one job. It makes the average look a little better and otherwise vanishes. You cannot see how many quoted jobs are open, how long they take to close, or which ones went quiet. You are steering a two-clock business with one clock.
THE QUOTED-WORK REPORT
A second board, a second report
- Board: site visit booked, quote sent, follow-up running, waiting on customer, won, lost. Weeks per column, not hours.
- Report: what is open, what closed, how long it took, what it was worth.
- Follow-up on this board runs longer and slower. Two weeks between messages is fine for a business buying chargers.
- The customer record says "business" or "homeowner," so the report can split them.
Doral buyers are often a manager, not the owner. The record needs the name of the person who can actually sign, and the follow-up goes to them.
What the owner sees on Monday
Two reports. Service: calls, booked, done, missed. Quoted: open, won, lost, days to close. The first tells you whether the phone is being answered. The second tells you whether the big jobs are actually closing or just sitting.
Questions we get asked about this
Do I need two accounts for two boards?
No. One account, two boards, one inbox. A job can start on the service board and move to the quoted board if a repair turns into a generator.
Can the report split business from residential?
Yes. It is a field on the customer record. Set it once and every report after can filter on it.
What counts as lost?
Whatever you decide. Most companies mark lost after the follow-up sequence ends with no reply, or when the customer says so. Either way it is a column you move the card to.
